GRIPS Key Differentiator

GRIPS is a single-source solution that conceptually integrates all of a company's product information, as it arises from its various sources, in the context of the product itself.

The key difference to other solutions in the marketplace is rather simple, but with a significant impact for anybody working with product information.

GRIPS, on one side, can store product data in any document structure (DTD), any industry standard (e.g. DITA, S1000D, Docbook, etc.), in any format (PDF, HTML, MS Word, etc.), and in any language in a single-source environment. Thus, information achieves highest findability.

Standard GRIPS functionalities (e.g. intelligent-linking, audit trail, language management, etc.) can be leveraged, but the quality of data retrieval from such a source is limited to the quality of source data, and the level of re-usability is reduced to the data's granularity (most likely "content chunks") from the content source.

So, 16 years ago, STAR started the path of determining pure semantic structures, i.e. attributing a logic and intelligent purpose to each information piece, resulting in GRIPS's unique information structures (ITDs). For over 10 years, these structures have been commercially available and are deployed by numerous leading companies around the world, such as Daimler's EvoBus, BMW, General Dynamics, and many others.

What is the greatest benefit for customers working with GRIPS ITDs?

The customer can generate simultaneously any document structure (DTD), any industry standard (e.g. DITA, S1000D, Docbook, etc.), in any format (PDF, HTML, MS Word, etc.), and in any language − all from a single-data-source. GRIPS users' flexibility is unlimited, their documentation has the highest quality, is very economically maintained and produced, and the system guarantees the longevity of product information, in other words, the longevity of the company's intellectual asset.

This makes the GRIPS approach unique and provides GRIPS users a competitive advantage, today and in the future.
